If a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, then what does that make the Britannica Quizmaster, which gathers together 2,800 questions (and, thankfully, answers) on a wide range of subjects, including literature, sport, geography, science and history? If you're a quiz fan it makes a good choice, whether you're planning a quiz party at home with family and friends or off on a long, solitary journey; as the title suggests, all the material comes from the Encyclopaedia Britannica. From the opening screen you can select your subject, difficulty level and whether you'd like the quiz to be timed or untimed. The timed quizzes last three minutes, the untimed ones allow you to choose between 10 and 50 questions. A plummy-voiced quizmaster introduces the program and reads out the questions, after which you'll see four answers, only one of which is correct; should the quizmaster's voice irritate you, you can mute him.
