PDF stands for portable document format and it remains the best way of making documents that can be read by anyone on any platform. Version 5. 0 brings significant improvements, particularly with regard to its interaction with other leading software such as the Office suite and programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator. Installation is easy and features a function button added to Office applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. When you have written a document in these programs, simply click the PDF button on the toolbar and it will guide you through saving it as a PDF. As before, there is an easy-to-grasp, quick-to-set-up "play window", on to which the various samples, sound effects and snatches of standardised 140 beats-per-minute music can be installed. These samples can be culled from the thousands available on disk, or the tens of thousands available on-line. Load up just as many of these guitar riffs, drum rolls, rap rhymes, synth licks and dog barks as you like-you just shift them about with your mouse-and then watch them scroll across your screen as they boom out of your speaker. But that isn't all. Other challenging yet gratifying facilities include a mixer, with a 32-track capability, allowing you to vary the volume of each individual sample, an FX Studio, with which you can warp or distort the loops, including samples of your own, and a Groove Generator, a virtual drum machine to give that all important backbeat. Acrobat 6. 0 has an enhanced user-interface along with several important new features. It's easier than ever to convert documents and a neat new feature is the option to combine several source documents into a single PDF. It's also possible is to scan documents directly into Acrobat. Once they're converted, you can touch up the content and add multimedia elements. Acrobat 6. [+]0 Standard has a greatly improved system for reviewing and commenting, so that a PDF can be e-mailed or posted to a Web location where others can suggest changes. Acrobat 6. 0 Standardcan gather all the comments into a new document and each change can be approved or rejected.
