Review Tweenies Ready to Play / BBC Multimedia BBCMM035:Hey, hey, are you ready to play? It's time to come and play with the Tweenies software. Jake, Milo, Bella and Fizz are all waiting to improve your little one's writing, art, reading and listening skills, as well as develop early gaming talents. Tick, Tock, Tweenie Clock, Where Will It Stop? Immerse your youngster in the colourful and familiar Tweenies world, brilliantly represented in sound and graphics on your PC. Everyone will love "Messy Time", with the three different print and play games, as well as instructions on how to make finger puppets, masks, badges and spinners. Then there's "Doodles Mail"-write to the Tweenies via Doodles, receive a reply, and see little faces light up. Watch favourite characters during "Telly Time", and join in the action songs in "Song Time". "News Time" will test pre-school general knowledge and Tweenies trivia, while "Playtime" encourages early gaming skills with "Catch", "Flying Rocket" (an arcade-style game) and "Snap". Then, if you're sitting comfortably, there's the old faithful, "Story Time". Clear, colourful and easy to use, the Tweenies software will appeal greatly to children from the age of three, but there's plenty to keep the five- and six-year-olds happy as well. Language development, numeracy, creativity, elementary computer skills and good old-fashioned fun are all encouraged, and the whole package is designed to support Key Stage 1 in English, Art, Maths and Information Technology. [+]
Whether you select your own activities, or let the Tweenie Clock pick at random, child appeal is absolutely guaranteed. Though simple in principle, all the games and learning activities have the repetitive quality toddlers love and thrive on. This is every bit as good as the TV show with one major advantage-it lasts much longer. -Lucie Naylor.

Review Creatures Playground / Creature Labs:Enter Creatures Playground and bring to life an entire world created around your very own virtual pet. Total care for this creature is your responsibility, as you guide it through various adventures. The whole playground begins in the "Nestery". This is where you choose an egg, hatch it, and then name your "Norn", your new friend. Since the Norn is born with no knowledge of the world, you must take over parental control and teach it well. Throughout the game your Norn must be kept well fed, warm and happy. Food can be found along your journey either on the ground or in the trees, or you can make it in the kitchen area, or even grow it in the garden. Dressing your Norn will keep him/her nice and warm, and clothes should be taken either from just outside the Nestery or along your journey. As your Norn makes its way through the playground; various tasks will need to be completed to enter different stages. Use the candyfloss machine to feed your Norn, or make jelly or toffee apples. [+]
Once well fed you can move on to the action games-take the water hose and shoot down the targets in the Pirate water game, enter the caves and dig for hidden treasure, or travel to space and transport your Norn to the winter play land. Here he/she can ride on a chair lift to the top of a hill, choose a sledge and then race down avoiding the obstacles. There are plenty of different stages, and tasks and surprises along the way, and the result is an endless number of possible adventures for your Norn. The younger of the suggested age range (4-8) may require parental assistance to begin with, to enable them to understand all the ways to play with the Norn. However, the scope for development and the endless game scenarios will keep most players enthralled. Parental control over the game can be set with the use of time and sound restrictions, and the game can be personalised with birth dates for the players. -Mandy Wood.

Review 102 Dalmatians Activity Centre / Disney Interactive:As is usual with Disney titles, this package is quirky, educational, graphically superb but, most importantly, lots of fun. Children can first "Adopt-a-Puppy", where they can choose a virtual pet to take with them throughout the game. They can then hone their mouse and finer motor skills, not to mention develop artistic creativity and their sense of humour, in the "Pup Art Gallery". Here they have all manner of colours, textures and even puppy fashions as a source of inspiration for their publication of the "Dogue" magazine. (Real backgrounds from the film are also included. ) Problem solving skills come under the magnifying glass in "Top Dog", a kind of pup-detective game where players must gather clues from the Parisian Twilight Bark Gang to find the leader and free the puppies. A slightly more frivolous, but no less important game is "Dog-o-matic", where players save their spotted friends from becoming pup cakes and develop hand-to-eye co-ordination and quick reflexes along the way. Then, all that is left to do is work with speed and accuracy to feed all 102 Dalmatians before they completely wreck Cruella's kitchen. Based on the Disney film of the same name, this 102 Dalmatians package is a great spin-off for anyone who enjoyed the movie. However, there is plenty of creative fun to be had for children who have not seen the film, but love PC games. [+]
And parents can rest assured that no matter how many hours their youngsters spend on-screen, there is enough educational content to make it worthwhile. Suitable for 4-8 years. -Lucie Naylor.
